WHO WE ARE

IMG_0005.jpg

We are a group of mums who love good coffee and cake and our community here in Weardale and so the idea for our pop-up community café, Root & Branch, was born!

We not only run the café and warm space but we’re also behind the new youth group that runs on a Thursday night. We’re always looking out for good ideas and new projects to explore, so watch this space!

We also work with a fab team of volunteers and over the last few months we have connected with some amazing women who work in our community in various roles supporting people. These connections are extremely important to us so that we can signpost our users to support that is out there for them, if they need it.

WHAT WE DO

Weardale Together

Weardale Together is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company which came into being when a group of women with a collective drive to make positive changes for their community, families and themselves came together.

Our goal is to keep Weardale special and help our community thrive. We believe that despite our remote location all residents of Weardale deserve access to quality experiences both cultural and creative. That’s why we organise events and workshops and work together with our local community and its groups. By doing this, we can improve our shared spaces as well as our mental health and wellbeing. It's all about making life better for everyone in Weardale.

All money we make goes back into our community projects; Root & Branch Community Café, our free programme of drop-in craft workshops and our youth club.

We are working towards a sustainable future for Weardale Together and all donations to support our work are gratefully received.

OUR CAFÉ

Root & Branch Community Café is how many people know us: it’s where they come to visit for a cuppa and a delicious cake or a fresh lunch. The overwhelming popularity and great atmosphere of the café are showing what we can achieve as a community.

It’s not an ordinary café, people do come in for the delicious food but they also come to meet other people, try their hands at free crafts or do a bit of gardening. Community groups also use our café as a place to meet up, find new support and start new groups.

Set up by Weardale Together in January 2023 as a funded warm space, it is now a community cafe supported by food sales, donations and by profits from our events and workshops programme. And of course, we have an amazing team of volunteers who make it all possible.

We suggest a donation for the food, but it's up to you how much you want to give. Tea and coffee are always free so that you can stay as long as you want.
